Metal Stamping: Hidden Message Ring

About a year ago, I made this black wire work ring with that kinda figure 8 weave type of pattern. I wore it everyday and it inevitably got kinda gross. So I decide to make a new one since after a year, my finger feels naked without a ring and hey, metal stamping! But since I'm wearing two of my metal stamped cuffs, adding a metal stamped ring seems like the icing on top of the icing that was already there and oh good lord can you even taste the cake anymore?

That combined with my curiosity as to whether I could work with coloured aluminium and tada, this ring was born.

((Also, a black ring is supposed to be a asexy thing and it even says 'go away' which is really the next closest thing to asexuality amirite?))

Anyway, so here's another tutorial because eh, why not? It has the same basics as my previous tutorial though so I''ll be skipping out on some details.

I'm trying calligraphy but I'm left handed we're obviously just like the star-crossed lovers

Once again, start off with planing out the phrase to be stamped. Number the characters (including spaces) to find the center and then lay out your stamps.

As for the length of the ring, I don't really have a guide there I'm sorry. What I can tell you though is that my finger is about 5.3cm and I cut 5cm for my ring. Since it's shaped similar to a cuff in the sense that it's still mostly adjustable, the length of the wire doesn't have to be too precise anyway so you know, do whatever.

Don't forget to mark out your center for the middle letter/ middle of the middle two letters

Now the fun part - stamping and inking yay!

as you can see I did a pretty terrible job here with the consistency of roundness. Oops.

Optional: File, sand and polish the edges. (more thorough version here)

If you're using a thinner gauge (18) like me, the back part may be a little dented but that's okay! Because you're gonna slather that in a coat of polish and it's gonna be rad.

Get whatever nail polish colour that suits your fancy and just paint away. It's not in the middle picture, but I'd recommend sticking it on a piece of blue tack (blutack?) so it doesn't shift while painting. Don't worry too much about being neat because you can just clean the sides when you're done with some cotton wool and nail polish remover. Or if you'd prefer, paint the sides of the ring as well.

Add a top coat if that pleases you.

Try to give it a day to dry or, if you're impatient like me, start poking at it after an hour and have your finger prints in the paint and curse your impatience before wiping everything off and starting over again. Once you're sure it's dried, wrap it around whatever is about your size.

I found that this lip  balm bottle was perfect but if you haven't found your perfect match, just bend it around something bigger and adjust with your fingers.

And you're done! Wasn't that easy?

Of course, you could stamp something sweet in here like - well, i don't know but maybe a name or a bff type thing you know nice things, and give it as a birthday present wouldn't that be nice yeah you should do that.

Also, since it's a block colour on the outside it really goes with anything. Also good for stacking!

And lastly, the most fun thing about this ring is that you could have something totally rude like 'suck it' inside it and paint it a nice pastel pink outside and people would be like "oh, what a sweet ring" and you can smile and thank them but jokes on you, my ring say s u c k i t. So you know that's always fun right?
